ANNOTATING AT IMAGE MAGIC™
USING TTF FONTS

by Becky

These directions work for MSN TV users only. Computer users will need to find tutorials written for them.

For this tutorial, we are using Arbor IM.

First you must know your way around Image Magick, to use this tutorial.

I have provided you with some blanks and fonts for you to practice with.

Here are instructions on how to get the URL of a font

Grab That Pesky Font

Another handy tool to know about is: http://ult-tex.net/tools/ultra/font_viewer.pl - Ultra's TTF Font Viewer. Take the url of a ttf font to this tool and you'll be able to see the whole font file.

Place the font URL in your FIND key.
Now take your blank to Image Magick

Click on the ANNOTATE Tab, found at the top of the page. In the large box type in what you want to annotate, like your name. We are not going to work with the location (gravity), so leave it at center. Now you will see boxes with FILL COLOR, STROKE COLOR, POINT SIZE, DENSITY and STROKE WIDTH.

  • FILL COLOR.... Inner or main color

  • STROKE COLOR....Outline color [ great for certain Fonts ]

  • POINT SIZE....The size of your annotation 24, 35, 55, 60, etc.

  • DENSITY....The 'thickness' of your 'words'.

  • STROKE WIDTH....The width of the outline color.

Here are two tags to work with.
One is transparent and the other is white.
You can make either one black, if you wish, and change their sizes, also.

Here are some Fonts to work with. The first works better with one color.

Spring

These two are fancier. Looks good with Fill and Stroke colors. [ParkLane uses all caps]

HINT, When doing STROKE COLORS on black or transparent background, don't go any higher than 1 or no stroke color at all. The stroke color looks broken when either on a transparent or black background, unless you intend on putting the transparent over another color.

When you have achieved what you want, click on the TRANSFORM Tab at the top and TRIM. Now you are ready to OUTPUT.
