Drop Shadows are hard edged black shadows that conform to the outline of the person, animal, or thing that is the subject of an image. This type of shadow can be made by computer users with a special expensive software program. But by using our free online Image Magick tool, MSN TV users can get very similar results. MrsK has developed the technique that most closely resembles the computer generated drop shadow.
COMPOSITE-DSTOUT FOR DROP SHADOWS
As far as we know, MrsK (MsV) is the first imager to have written a tutorial on the Drop Shadow for MSN TV users. She has given us permission to post a link to her tutorial here:

These next techniques will produce either a hard edged shadow or softer, blurry edged shadows.
COLORMAP WITH GAUSSIAN BLUR FOR SOFT DROP SHADOWS by Moonbeam
Here is her tutorial. Moonbeam uses the Colormap tool to create the shadow.
SHADE WITH GAUSSIAN BLUR FOR HARD OR SOFT DROP SHADOWS
by Flo
This technique involves transparentizing the background of a jpg or gif, then compositing it as a transparent gif over the original jpg. The original jpg is resized, then shaded or grayshaded to darken the shadow bfore compositing with the gif.
DRAW FOR DROP SHADOWS by Becky
Becky shows us how to Draw rectangles, then Blur them to create a drop shadow.
EXAMPLES OF DROP SHADOWS ON A BACKGROUND WEBSITE
Here's an absolutely fabulous page chock full of unusual background images. Please notice that this person put soft drop shadows that show on the right side and bottom of each of the thumbnail images. This makes them stand out from the white background better, like pictures hanging in an art gallery.
IMAGE MAGICK FORUM
The Forum is the place to go to read up on the latest news about the various Image Magick sites. Only Arbor, Net11 and Pair IMs are still supported by Mr. Cristy. If you're having problems with any of the other IMs, these problems probably will not be fixed, unless the host owners invite Mr. C. to go in and fix them. To report bugs, ask questions, and so forth, go to the following url and find the appropriate Forum page on which to post. You must register to be able to post.
