Design Definition

What do you think of when you see this on the bottom of a website?

Website DesignİName

  • The graphics are their originals.

  • The Layout or page code is theirs.

  • The Content is theirs.

  • Some combination of two above.

  • All three above

I recently came across that on a webpage I sourced for another reason and found in the head generated by MicroSoft Frontpage; and got to wondering what website design copyright really meant.

Web design is the design or designing of a Web page, Website or Web application. The term generally refers to the graphical side of Web development using images, CSS and XHTML. (wikipedia.org)

According to this then, the Contents, Layout and Graphics should all be original. So perhaps in this case Graphics&ContentİName might have been used instead to give a better picture. And if the graphics were not their original, ContentİName. Business sites may need to be more accurate for legal purposes and will include a definition in context:

The design and layout of the TandemTables.com website is the property of TandemTables.com. Elements of the site are protected by copyright and other laws and may not be copied or imitated in whole or in part.(google)

Just something to think about the next time you make a page. Or you can do as I do and let them guess.
